Following the Money Trail

The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it. - Michelangelo

I've been searching for answers to the question: How did our universities become so leftist-oriented over the last 35-40 years? Then I remembered the old saw that said: follow the money. And the money trail has led right to the doorstep of the Ford Foundation.

I have to warn you, when I read it I got physically sick for an hour or so.

Originally published in hetrerodoxy magazine, and posted on Front Page magazine in January, 2004, with an editor's note by David Horowitz, "How the Ford Foundation Created Multiculturalism", sub-titled,"Wherever there's a pernicious development in America's intellectual climate, Ford is 'present at the creation'."

The article begins with a quote by David Horowitz of
FrontPage Magazine:

Editor’s Note: One of the largest and most dangerous concentrations of unchecked power in the United States is the Ford Foundation with discretionary spending power that rivals that of government. It is spending power moreover, for the political left and often the hard left. As a public service Frontpage Magazine is devoting a series of articles to the malign influence of Ford. The story posted below, which originally appeared in Heterodoxy magazine, reveals Ford’s crucial role in creating the ideological movement called “multiculturalism” in our universities. -- David Horowitz.

President Bush Signs Fence Into Law

WASHINGTON — President Bush signed into law Thursday a broad measure that calls for fencing a third of the 2,100-mile border between the United States and Mexico.

"This bill will protect the American people, this will bill make our borders more secure. It is an important step in immigration reform," Bush said from the White House Roosevelt Room before putting pen to paper.

Bush was joined by Vice President Dick Cheney, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, House Majority Leader John Boehner and several other lawmakers and administration officials.Bush said the United States is a nation of immigrants but also a nation of laws.

"Unfortunately, the United States has not been in complete control of its borders for decades, and therefore, illegal immigration has been on the rise. We have a responsibility to address these challenges, we have a responsibility to enforce our laws, we have a responsibility to secure our borders. We take this responsibility seriously," Bush said. So do we, Mr. Bush, so do we.

Khruschev's Shoe

I guess we owe a debt of gratitude to ol' Khruschev - this image has drawn the line in the sand for so many. His boorish behavior at the UN shocked a lot of people at the time, and of course that was his intent.

During the cold-war, there used to be a saying about the Russian's negotiating position that went like this: "What's mine is mine, and what's yours, we'll negotiate." Dialogue won't work with idealogues, and the longer we deceive ourselves that compromise is possible, the worse it will get. With Islamists and the leftist, so-called secular progressives we have an even worse position at the dialogue table: We are dealing not with people, but rather with an ideology, inflexible and absolute. It can be infuriating to try to talk to someone who is behind that wall of fundamentalism. My own mother used to get me crazy with her own brand of Baptist fundamentalism. Even at a young age, I knew I was dealing with a sick person, who did not see me as a person, who therefore had no real compassion for anyone, because if the other person would not be persuaded to see the world through her eyes, then well...the deficiency lay with the other. No possibility of real dialogue or exchange of ideas. Another thing I learned back them was that idealogues hate, or worse deny all facts that run counter to their beliefs. Period. At the age of thirteen, I retreated behind a wall of Agnosticism, and only discovered in the late 60's that there is a spiritual world.

And today I'm writing at seemingly cross-purposes, because on one hand, I must always remember that when dealing with ideologues, they always have but one purpose: to slay their opponents. Or to push their adversaries aside, as irrelevent. And on the other hand, there is that spiritual world I discovered, which for a time seemed to be the answer to the world's strife. My mistake was thinking that there needed to be a "spiritual solution" to the world's problems. I now believe that the world is perfect as it is, and is under the umbrella of grace, whether my imperfect eyes see it or not. And in this perfect world, there is a war raging at the moment, in which the multi-cultural Marxists would bring everyone down to their level (stuck on stupid). The Islamists practice of al-Taqiyya segues rather handily into this leftist, multicultural crap, giving rise to CAIR, which is poisoning our campuses throughout America. Oh, yeah, it is war. I have to give homage to Fjordman and Baron Bodissey for opening my eyes. Thank you for sharing your insights and observations, and also for showing how to engage the enemy.

Wonderful World of Islam - Women in Thrall

I used to believe that if the Muslim women would ever decide to take a stand against the insanity of Islam, the men would have to begin acting human again. No, not something on the order of Lysistrata, ie no more nookie 'til you stop this madness of war. That was a comedy, and besides, that notion pre-supposes that women are basically shallow anti-war types. I don't believe that for a minute. But of course, the Gramscians would cast her as a peaceful soul, eschewing any type of violence (war is bad, bad), would romanticise women's contribution on the stage of human history.

Meanwhile, in North Africa the Arabs are still scraping off their clitorises & labia, and in all of muslimland, where Sharia has come to rule they are humiliating, enslaving, abusing, torturing, & stoning to death their women for the shame of being so, so... disgustingly female. And what the Islamists absolutely hate us for is that Westernization is empowering their women to hold views independent of their men. But an ideology such as Islam Imperialism has the power to hold in thrall all who subscribe to its tenents. Even the women.

So what we have in the Arab world is madness, and they would like to share their madness with the rest of the world. Maybe women do hold the key to dissolving the Islam threat, but it will be up to the men of the world to create the opportunities for their wisdom to flourish. I can feel the feminists's hackles rising as I say this, but the fact is: women need permission to act. It is up to the men to give it. So what are we waiting for? Oh, right - it is the women who empower the men. Western women already have permission, because it's built into the culture. Not so in the Arab world.

It's like this: According to Panini, the great Sanskrit grammarian, the word in Sanskrit for masculine is punlinga, which means: the forceful. For feminine the word is strilinga: the force of the forceful. God, that being which fully and completely encompases both punlinga and strilinga, the word: napunsakalinga applies, for which, unfortunately, no good English word exists, so the word "neuter" gender is used. God, of course is anything but "neuter".

Our Borders

This is the start of my blogging days. Knowing nothing when I started, how to blog, post, edit, etc., it's taken me awhile to figure the html out. Thank goodness for WYSIWYG. In the beginning I just wanted to write about what it's like to retire, move out West, get a donkey, live a simple life. When I discovered what the illegal immigration situation is along our border with Mexico, my focus shifted.

As I began researching the situation with the illegals in America, my view opened out to the larger issue of who we are in America, who I am as an American. What values do I hold? Have our values so erroded in the past 50 years that we simply cannot hold back the forces intent on the destruction of America? I hope not. What can I do? Guided by my own intuition, I must simply start to speak the truth. To do that I will have to break out of the "political correctness" rule, which is so clouding our vision. So, even though I have some liberal values, and am not a racist (although some will undoubtedly label me so), I reject the censure of trying always to be PC. Right or wrong, I will speak my mind. I encourage others to do the same. I know this sounds a bit noble, but that's perhaps because I feel weak and need to sound brave. In fact, to actually speak the truth will not be without it's consequences. But I have to try because we are in trouble, as a nation. There are those who are intent on discarding the hierarchical nature of our legal and educational systems. It's time to stop this anti-American chorus of appeasement. If we allow anyone, especially our politicians, to subvert the rule of law, we give away our rights. Only by doing our duty are we entitled to the rights we have come to expect as Americans.

And what about the border situation with the Mexicans, and the politician's lack of will to protect our boundaries? All this border control talk notwithstanding, they’re basically saying, "Let 'em all in, give 'em citizenship". Congress doing what Congress does best: obfuscating, watering down the definition of ‘amnesty’. Which, according to Wikipedia means, “...(from the Greek amnestia, oblivion) an act of justice by which the supreme power in a state restores those who may have been guilty of any offence against it to the position of innocent persons. It includes more than pardon, in as much as it obliterates all legal remembrance of the offence.”

The offence of course, is illegal entry into the United States of America. But wait, they are here because of a wink and a nod to the current laws on illegal immigration. Oh, crap. How could we live with ourselves, if we just show them the door? Wouldn’t be “neighborly”. Truth of the matter is, they don’t have any intention of holding off the Mexicans. Never did. From the 1986 amnesty, till the present time. Oh, sure a little show of resolve now. Bush, feeling pushed to the wall says, “let’s build some fences, send in the troops” – well, they won’t really be troops in the strictest sense, cause we sure don’t want to piss the Mexicans off. God forbid. Another good idea: Let’s ask the Mexicans where they would like the fences built. The senate is just full of geniuses. We're talking about 40 to 50 million people, when you factor in their families. And now the word is: it’s one thing to approve the fence, and another to actually fund it. Um huh. Bush could simply not sign it for a few days, which would likely result in a "pocket veto". If he does that, the Republicans can start cleaning out their desks.

I feel sick about what's happening to America, but what to do about it? I love my country, and I hate to see it run over by mass immigration on the one hand, and by the Rabid Islamic Horde, on the other hand. Religion of peace, my ass. Western Europe’s pretty much a done deal for the Islamic Horde. They've lost their will to fight. Belgium appears done for. Sweden is letting the Muslims walk all over them, rape their schoolgirls with impunity. Is their collective guilt just too strong for any mounted resistance to happen? Guilt is a great debilitator. What are they guilty of? I dunno. Maybe for being a white, Judeo-Christian society. Go figure. And we can thank the power-hungry Charles de Gaulle, who back in the 60's and 70's, thought he could build an alliance with Arab Speakers. (Also, see Fjordman article.) How is that working out for you, guys? Jacques, you there? But please, by all means, keep appeasing them.

When the Muslim nutjobs have
stomped you into the mud, maybe you'll find the balls to kick them out. But it will perhaps be too late. Maybe that's what will happen to us in America. When MEChA, along with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (Cair) get to our legislators, as they already have done in our universities, we'd better have our cutlasses sharpened. Most major universities have a freshman indoctrination program, to instruct their students on "multicultural diversity awareness and sensitivity". Ah, but the multicultural, leftist academics have laid well the foundation for them, over the years, "celebrating our diversity". What a crock.

Maybe we can survive. Is that all we want to do - survive? At what cost? The small towns in America are beginning to fight back, making and enforcing their own rules, since the federal government clearly is unwilling to do so. Should we fight? These Americans think so, and aren't waiting for a rule-book on fighting to take back their towns and schools. See Hazelton, Pa here, and especially, here. And of course, the good fight is a magnet for leftist lawyers by the carload. So it's obvious that a protracted fight with the ACLU will be forth-coming. I am looking for a pro-active way to stand up to this assault on American values. If we wait for the Leftists and Islamists to bring the fight to us, it will be too late. I like the small-town "Git your asses outta my town" approach (I come from a small town in the South). And I don't know about you, but I don't feel too reassured these days by either Donkeys (the rabid type) or Elephants in office.

If I let it get to me, I lose myself. And I can't afford to do that. When I get still, really still, I remember who I am, and why I'm here on this earth: to find my way back to my Creator, and to love and help others along the way. But I don’t intend to become a doormat.

Time To Roll

Hello, and welcome to my new blog!

I am a concerned citizen, trying to make sense of the current dangers within our shores, in our political institutions, in our bastions of "higher education". America's current plight, of an unrelenting stream of illegal immigrants, and the rise of Islam's sword, can be characterized by a lack of perception of danger to our way of life, and a disinclination to stand up and resist the multi-cultural Marxists' persistent whittling away at our political will. Over-simplifying perhaps, but it'll do for a start. The Multiculturalists, hammering away at our right of free speech (thanks
ACLU, you're now in my sights, too.), dumbing down our educational systems, plus the real dangers of using speech which is not Politically Correct (a hold-over from the Civil Rights Movement) have made us fearful and vulnerable.
In the 50's, when Pogo made his famous declaration about who the enemy is, we all smiled and said, "good one". Well here it is, fifty years later, and things haven't changed all that much. I confess, until a few months ago, I was mostly unaware of the forces of evil at work. I read MSM, like a lot of Americans, shook my head at the Mindless Muslim Rage, and figured someone, eventually would fix it.
As I prepared to retire to the Arizona desert with a couple of donkeys (yes, really) for companions, I made the decision to start a blog about my adventures. In preparation, I began to look online at the climate, demographics, etc., and to try to pick a logical place to drop anchor in Arizona. My first look was at the deserts, animals, flora, and.….the seemingly unending trash and human waste of the illegal immigrants coming across the Mexican border. I thought WTF? So I began to research the situation. What I found on the physical level in the desert and wilderness of the Tohono O'Odham and the Huachuca Highlands and mountains was certainly cause for concern. What I subsequently found residing in the mind-set of the current crop of politicians who should be protecting our borders was even more disturbing. Here's what I wrote at the time:

...for whatever reason, and I don’t believe in coincidences, I picked the southeast corner of Arizona to plan my retirement around (I’m 65 years old). And it wasn’t so suddenly – I have been looking into this for the past 6 months. Anyway, I like the desert, plus the sky islands (mountains) of southeast Arizona, and a small town like Bisbee or Patagonia both have small populations with a goodly number of artists living there. Also, the Tumacacori Highlands, with its vast high roadless prairie appealed to me. As I continued to research the SE corner of Arizona though, I discovered it also has something I hadn’t counted on - it also is appealing to drug cartels and coyotes (human kind), for very different reasons than my own. And who are even now, exploiting a very porous Mexican border, facilitating rampant illegal immigration, and drug running. I began to read various ranchers’ descriptions of life on the border for the past 20 years, tales of stolen property, fences being regularly cut, or simply driven over by the very busy and resourceful coyotes, who are bringing thousands of illegal immigrants and drugs across the border. And generally, making the ranchers’ lives hell. I saw photographs of the huge amount of garbage left in the Sonora Desert, the desperate lives lost every year in the unforgiving desert.

Curious, I began researching the border policies of both the US and Mexican government. What I found was a quagmire of failed immigration policies on the US side, a thoroughly corrupt political network, and failing economic policies on the Mexican side. Can’t fault the Mexicans who need work. It isn’t to be had in Mexico. Certainly not for the wages they can earn here. Of course, they head Norte. They need work, and the Gringos are hiring. On the US side, politicians have been unwilling for several administrations to deal with border control, and illegal immigration. Throw in the so-called “war on drugs” (supply is tight, price is high), and everybody has a reason to head north of the border. On our side the US employers are just, as President Bush put it, hooking up willing workers with undesirable jobs. (* note – show Big Bush Smile here) That is to say, they attract and flood the labor market with workers who have entered the country illegally, and are willing, desperate, to work for less than our American workers, thus depressing the prevailing wage, and keeping it depressed. None of this is news, of course. But the unions are going the way of the horse and buggy. Nobody to stand up for the American workers. We all are American workers. And believe me, there are no jobs Americans are unwilling to do. That’s a lie. But how do they compete with the illegals, who are flooding the labor market? Whatever the going rate for any job, when the Mexicans, in this case, show up, the rate will go down. Employers simply exploit the situation, because THE US GOVERNMENT allows them to. No real penalties to speak of. A wrist slap, a small fine, that is, when they are actually caught and prosecuted. Again, I’m not against the business community. They play the hand they are dealt, too. Now, to slide their way out of a hopeless situation, amnesty in various flavors is the politician’s answer. I’m not against the Mexicans. It’s not their fault. The corrupt Mexican government has languished for generations on the largess of Americans. I think it’s time it stopped. Cork up the friggin’ border and watch what happens. They will be truly f****d. Anarchy will prevail south of the border. Is that good dharma on the part of Americans? Who knows? It’s a rhetorical question, anyway. See, here’s the thing. I’m going out on a limb here, but I believe none of that is about to happen. Bush apparently definitely has this lofty plan to eliminate the border altogether, north and south. Yep, Canadian border, too. All that business about NAFTA, just the first pass, folks. Does everybody remember the words to Kumbayah?

"…man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.” - Ronald Regan

Where does that leave America? America? Sorry, my fellow Americans, but that’s a concept going the same way as the unions, and of course, the borders. I don’t believe within 25 years, there will even be a fight. The process went from protecting other’s civil rights, to
political correctness, to “fear of offending”. It’s become a kind of cultural sickness. Making people afraid of "offending" is also making them hesitant to stand up and be counted. No flags, no prayers, Christmas is on a watch list. But no, we have Kwanza now, so maybe Christmas will live another season. Look into the origin of Kwanza, if you want a good laugh. What a joke.
It's right up there with the origin of Alex Haley's,
Roots.

So, no profiling either. Nope, sorry. Not even in the case of Islamic terrorists who, parenthetically, are alive and well in Tucson. Another reason for me to avoid Arizona. But that’s another installment. That ties the hands of the police, even the border control guards. The sky falls on the State Police, if they are caught profiling. “Racists!”, cries Al Sharpton. Ever notice how he just seems to materialize out of nowhere? At least up here in my neck of the woods, NY, Northern NJ. Then why do they profile? (Ans: to catch the bad guys.) Duh. The police are not stupid. Their job has just been made so much more difficult. Look out, or the ACLU, that snake pit, will be filing, have already filed class action suits before breakfast.

What are we teaching our children? They are paying attention, you know. It’s amazing what you discover, when you look. Do I know what I’m talking about? Why don’t you do your own research? Let me know what you find.

What’s important to me is being free to live my life simply, make art, help take care of disabled kids, become friends with a donkey or two. Unless my government is willing to protect it’s borders and work out sound fiscal policies, both at home and abroad, all that could be taken away. I don’t intend to stand idly by, and say nothing. I have eyes, ears, and a computer. I intend to use them as long as I can.

So. I also learned of the EC/EU-type political license GW has granted himself, along with Vicente Fox, and the boys North of the border. You know, the um, Superhighway that's been planned, without bothering to check with the folks unwarshed. It goes under the high-sounding name of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or as we like to say, the SPP. Apparently, this thing is pretty far along. Money's been allocated, and plans have already been laid to start building. You didn't know about this? Don't feel too bad, even some politicians weren't aware of it. It's the first step toward eliminating our national identity. Yeah, that's how the EU got started, too. Quietly, behind the scenes, slowly eating away at the concept of national borders in Europe. Getting wind of the SPP is about when I discovered the world of blogging, and things which the MSM don't talk about. Theodore Roetke said: "I learn by going where I have to go." Well, yeah that, too. Mostly, I learn by doing what I have to do. Even Especially when I don't want to do it, whatever "it" happens to be at the time. I would still like to walk away from what I've learned, but find that I cannot.. Early on in my first tentative attempts at blogging, I had decided I would go to Wyoming instead, and said so on my blog. I got a comment from Jake Jackobson, of Freedom Folks who told me flat-out, you can run, but you can't get away from the problems. Now I find that he's right. Because now I know there's a big problem, I can't run. I don't like it, but I can't just walk away. I know now what that H.L. Mencken quote means: "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats." And I would do that, if I thought it would change anything. Instead, I will find others like myself, hopefully more versed in solutions, and try to make myself useful.

I don't want to get caught up, as many in the blogging world seem to do, in worrying about what the Left is doing. I know what they're doing, and don't need to be reminded every day. I need to stay connected with with warriors like, Dymphna and Baron Bodissey over at Gates of Vienna and Fjordman, who writes commentary like Vivaldi wrote music: he puts one, with almost frightening clarity, in the present moment. It's heartening to learn that so many people are willing to stand up and fight the good fight. I will be building a blogroll in the days to come. Time to work.
